Niagara Falls Honeymoon
Over 60 years as the honeymooning capital of the world.
If you’re thinking of a Niagara Falls honeymoon you’re in for a treat. Niagara Falls Canada and NY has been seen as one the greatest marvels of the natural world, even when taking into account that the water flow is regulated and reduced to prevent erosion from altering the dramatic presentation. With more than 4 million cubic feet of water moving from through the falls every minute, this is one of the most amazing and powerful demonstrations of nature's power in the world (shower anyone?). From a human perspective, it provides electrical power for millions of homes and businesses throughout the North Eastern United States and large portions of Canada. Elope in Niagara Falls
If you are eloping, Niagara Falls can also supply you with multiple chapels for any type of service you might want, many of which have packages that include photos of the ceremony and a few that even have on site rentals for both the bide and groom if you want to look formal without having to invest in a dress and tuxedo. After over 60 years as the honeymooning capital of the world, the people in and around Niagara Falls have learned how to make your romance start out on the right foot .
Eloping to Niagara Falls, marrying there, or a Niagara Falls honeymoon is something that many couples do, but often without knowing how to prepare for where to go and what to do. Here are some suggestions that may help make your new start less confusing and more like the romantic adventure you should have.
When traveling to Niagara Falls from outside Canada, you must bring a valid passport. While the US side has its advantages, the Canadian side has the most dramatic views as well as many attractions to keep you smiling during your Niagara Falls honeymoon or romantic getaway. Getting to Niagara Falls Canada from anywhere in the world is fairly simple. Toronto International Airport is two hours to the North and car rentals are quick and easy. This also gives you the advantage of already having cleared customs, so once you are on the road to the your Niagara Falls honeymoon , you do not have to worry about inspection waiting lines. But there are also advantages to staying on the US side. The walk from the American side to the Canadian side does mean you need your passport, but it saves on the cost of parking in Clifton Hills on the other side. The other option is to stay on the American side at a motel and drive over, but the lines at customs can be long depending on the time of day and year.

On the Canadian side of the Niagara River you will find numerous small motels scattered about. If the larger hotels are full, or just out of budget, you can find any number of places to stay within a 4 mile radius of the Falls themselves. Along the river gorge the bed and breakfast houses are affordable and give you a feeling simplicity without breaking a wallet. If you want a full service hotel, the one you should look at first is the Falls View Hotel. If you call ahead, ask for a room on the Falls’ side. The view is unobstructed and on clear days you can see up the river to Lake Erie (one of the five largest fresh water lakes in the world). The entire area is full of parks, restaurants and shopping. We would recommend that you stop in at the chocolate store Hershey located near the Hardrock Cafe. They make fresh chocolate dipped strawberries that are some of the sweetest and largest we have ever seen (perfect for feeding each other!).
Niagara Falls honeymoon Shopping
If shopping is something you want to do, there is another treasure not far to the north along the river. Saint Catharines on the Lake is a wonderful small town on the shore of Lake Ontario at the end of the Niagara River and filled with small shops that will keep you strolling for hours at a time. This is also only 20 minutes along the river by car, so you will have more than enough time to visit and get a view of the Niagara Gorge that separates Canada and the US.
When to go on a Niagara Falls honeymoon or romantic getaway
Now that you have an idea of where to go, when is just as important. Spring and summer are the best times to visit Niagara Falls as the region is infamous for cold winters. Balancing that - spring and summers are beautiful and enjoyable. This part of the world often has more rain free days than almost any other temperate zone on the planet. Starting in May and running through September are your best bet for fair weather.
Note that June through August are when most people visit, so if you want privacy this isn’t your best travel window. This three month period is when prices are up too. The park along side the Falls is also one of the most beautiful municipal parks as the local people are well aware that people come here for the comfort and memorable views. Besides winter (unless you’re a snow bird) the other times of the year to avoid are whenever there are either Canadian or American holidays.
