Top romantic things to do on a Maine romantic vacation ...

Penobscot Gorge -- As you go up Route 1, pull into the turnout just west of the Penobscot River. Watching eagles and ospreys fish in the gorge below couldn't be a better introduction to the rugged Downeast landscape.

Portland Head Light

A world famous landmark with plenty of romantic picnicking spots right on the beautiful coast.

Portland Head Light is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the U.S. and a favorite spot for lovers.

Desert of Maine -- composed of a glacial sand deposit that was exposed by farmers in the late 1800's, and now sand dunes cover 40 acres of the farm.

Baxter State Park -- a great place to experience the natural forested beauty of Maine.

Bar Harbor has the most dramatic scenery.

maine-vacations-acadia-national-parkGo for a romantic stroll around this beautiful seaside town and try some of the many local microbrews, from such breweries as Bar Harbor Brewing, Atlantic Brewing and Maine Coast Brewing.

Acadia National Park– The Bubble Pond. Stroll the carriage road around this pond, a narrow trough of water in a striking glacial gorge. The trailhead begins at a parking lot 2 1/2 miles south of Route 233 on the Park Loop Road. White cedars surround the pond, but you may be able to catch the last flashes of foliage on the steep slopes of surrounding Cadillac and Pemetic mountains.

The best Mountain View is from a bluff on the pond's south end.

Camden/Rockport is a romantic and picturesque coastal Maine town to visit on a Maine romantic vacation.

Ogunquit -- has ocean breezes, great restaurants, fabulous walking trails and amazing seaside views.

Caterpillar Hill overlook -- Along Route 175 heading south toward Stonington, take a breather at this overlook at Routes 175 and 15, east of Brooksville. A foreground of blueberry barrens, a middle ground of ocean dotted with spruce-covered islands, and the rounded peaks of the Camden Hills in the hazy blue distance.

Go to Portland Symphony Orchestra, if you like classical music.

Warm summer walks along miles of sandy beaches beckon hand holding. Then cuddle on the porch of your Victorian bed & breakfast while listening to the waves crashing on the rocks.

In winter - wrapped in a blanket, before a crackling fire, in your mountainside cabin, will be very welcome after a cold day of skiing and snowshoeing.

A light evening rain will lull you to sleep as you snuggle together in your tent after a serene hike among the towering evergreens.

The thousands of miles of quiet scenic highways offer couples wistful views of velvet green robed hills of summer, blazing fall foliage, or snow capped mountains in the winter.

No matter the season, lovers will find quiet lodging in a cabin, condo, motel, tent, camper or a bed and breakfast.
