Elope to New Orleans Plantations and Unique Honeymoon Ideas

If you are feeling Scarlett O’Hara-ish you can always have your elopement at one of the beautiful plantations that surround New Orleans. These glorious mansions were the homes of the genteel southern belles and their handsome gentlemen. The rolling lawns, the magnolia trees, hanging with Spanish moss add to the air of romance and mystery. Jasmine perfumes the air, as you say your vows. This is a time out of place. Many of these plantations offer restaurants where you can dine and celebrate your marriage in style and some even have a bed and breakfast attached or not that far away, for that cozy wedding night.

If your life (and your love) is more like Mardi Gras, then the French Quarter is where you should head. During the day, the French Quarter is a stately lady hiding her wild side, and while she has her wild side.

The French Quarter also has the ambiance of a European city, with soaring cathedrals, beautiful French and Spanish architecture. The French Quarter is romance with a twist. Of course, after you’re married, you party like it’s nineteen ninety nine all up and down Bourbon Street if you are so inclined.

Garden District Elope to New Orleans

If you are a bit more romantically inclined, try the Garden District. The Garden District of New Orleans is known for its beautiful gardens, parks and homes, many of which are still lived in by the families that built them in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The parks and streets in this beautiful area are named for the Muses and is one of the first truly “urban” neighborhoods.

Before you Elope to New Orleans

Some things you want to know before your New Orleans elope and about getting married in New Orleans in particular and Louisiana in general. You have to have a Louisiana marriage license. You can get one at the Orleans Parish Registry office in Metairie, LA. Bring with you some identification, like your driver’s license, or military ID and divorce papers (if you are divorced or death certificate, if you are widowed). There is a seventy two hour waiting period, but this can be waived in New Orleans by the offciant or the presiding judge who is doing your New Orleans elope ceremony.
